The Vault of Silliness has surprised us today with quite the find.
A 32-year-old cassette that sounds like it was recorded yesterday. Hailing from Friday, April 26th, 1991, we have Steve Martorano hosting and his guest is none other than Henny Youngman. He’s in studio and sounding fantastic. He was going to be appearing at Nick’s Comedy Stop in Randolph and Framingham. He also had a new book about to be published, “Take My Life, Please.”
Let’s call this one “A Henny Good Time.”
You will hear the whole hour, uninterrupted. News, traffic, and commercials. All of it.
I love how ‘clean’ the station sounds. No frills, no noisy sounders behind every update and voice.
Lots of topics are discussed:
Vaudeville
His recent commercials endeavors and a hit movie
He was going to be doing some dates with Milton Berle & Red Buttons that October
Dial-a-Joke
David Brudnoy calls in to tease his show that would feature William F Buckley as his guest. David uses a Normism quite nicely.
Diane Stern with the news
Jeff Brown w/Traffic
And Accuwx w/Alex Seznowski
They take a call from Grace who had listened to Henny on the Kate Smith Show way back when
Al Jolson, Frank Sinatra, George Burns and more legends are talked about.
