[00:00:00] Speaker A: Here we are on July 22 to aught 26, and I have for you a Dumb birthday game from July 22, 9 95, the title of which shall be A Confluence of Corny Contestants.
We begin with the treasured Dumb Birthday Game Theme. The players. I'm on the phone from parts unknown. We have Jack Hart in Traffic Hope Shower, producing and playing in studio Paul from Dorchester, Ontario, Sonia in New Castle, Pennsylvania, and Jim from Lowell. The birthdays Orson Bean, Alex Trebek, Danny Glover, Albert Brooks, Robert Doyle, and Sparky Lyle. The vault of silliness could use your support, so please visit the links below for options. Episode 297, a confluence of corny contestants, shocks its way to your ear. Ears in three, two, and one.
[00:01:00] Speaker B: And I say good riddance to whoever you want to have good riddance to.
Okay, I think this would be a good time to start the Dumb Birthday game. What a lineup of people we've got.
You don't need skill.
[00:01:20] Speaker C: You don't have to be a brain. You just call Norm to play the dumb birthday game. Play the dumb.
[00:01:26] Speaker B: Play the dumb dumb.
[00:01:28] Speaker D: Play the dumb birthday game.
[00:01:32] Speaker B: Okay, that's what we'll do. And I'm now about to introduce you to the members of the panel. I tell you what, let's introduce you to our own people first, like Tony Nesbitt.
[00:01:42] Speaker C: Hold on, let me turn my radio down.
[00:01:44] Speaker B: Would you turn your radio down and just try to speak up just a little bit, if you would, please? Because talk right directly into the mouthpiece.
Because I think you have the earpiece in front of your mouth and the mouthpiece in front of your ear.
[00:01:57] Speaker C: I'm perforating my gums.
[00:01:59] Speaker B: Oh, you're that close, are you?
[00:02:01] Speaker C: I am that close. Is there a problem hearing me? Hello, is this mic on?
[00:02:04] Speaker B: I'm sorry, who is this, please?
No, you're coming in fine.
[00:02:08] Speaker C: Oh, okay.
I was in the bathroom. If you want a little personal anecdote. I heard you play the theme and I came running back into my room.
[00:02:16] Speaker B: Oh, were you? Because I was in my dressing room changing to my costume when the theme went on.
[00:02:21] Speaker C: Now, I haven't seen you yet because we always like to keep the show that improvisational type mode that is. Are you in mid Victorian costume? No, no.
[00:02:29] Speaker B: Today I'm in my Spanish cummerbund, my Spanish ruffle shirt, my cummerbund, the plus fours.
I'm putting on jodhpur's. I had jodhpurs instead of the plus fours this time.
[00:02:41] Speaker C: What's the difference?
[00:02:43] Speaker B: Jodhpur's are kind of more like when you're riding horses, you know, with those kind of pants.
[00:02:47] Speaker C: Yes.
Are you carrying a riding crop?
[00:02:51] Speaker B: I am carrying a riding crop and I'm slapping Hope a lot with it and she seems to like it a lot.
[00:02:59] Speaker E: Well, now I have a pair of black jodfers that I wear all the time.
[00:03:03] Speaker B: See, she's a sharp ad libber, isn't she? Enough to work for me.
[00:03:07] Speaker C: Okay, give her another whack wig.
[00:03:09] Speaker B: I think I'll keep whacking her till she shuts up. I think so.
Okay, let's bring in also Jack Hart. We'll bring him right at the very top before we introduce our civilian panel.
How you doing there, Jack?
[00:03:22] Speaker F: I am well, sitting here in Matoga.
[00:03:25] Speaker B: Oh, you're in your toga costume this time, are you?
[00:03:29] Speaker F: Yes, I'm in the toga.
[00:03:30] Speaker C: Okay, don't ask me what I was wearing.
[00:03:32] Speaker B: Well, I'll ask you. What are you wearing?
[00:03:34] Speaker C: Nothing.
[00:03:35] Speaker B: You're actually.
[00:03:36] Speaker F: That's why we didn't ask.
[00:03:37] Speaker B: Yeah, that's right. That's just the thought of that is enough to sicken me.
It may excite some of your female friends, but mercifully it's.
[00:03:46] Speaker C: Actually, I wouldn't mind having that riding crop.
[00:03:49] Speaker B: Say that part again.
[00:03:50] Speaker C: I said I wouldn't mind having that riding crop. Wow.
[00:03:52] Speaker B: There's no reason. Just go out. If you don't mind going out in your backyard with, you know, being naked, you can just. Just pull a branch off a tree. That's as good a riding crop as you need.
[00:04:01] Speaker F: You cut a switch.
[00:04:03] Speaker B: Cut a switch. That's. That's what we do. Cut a switch.
[00:04:06] Speaker C: Is that like bust a move?
[00:04:08] Speaker B: Is that like what.
[00:04:09] Speaker F: Yes, that's the old man. That's a form of bust a move. Used to be cut a switch, cut a switch.
[00:04:16] Speaker B: We have Paul who's up in Ontario, Canada, listening to all this, and I hope he won't pass it along to his Canadian friends because the whole country could break relations with us.
[00:04:25] Speaker C: Oh, yeah. In a second.
[00:04:26] Speaker B: Okay, where. Where in Ontario, Canada are you from?
[00:04:29] Speaker C: Dorchester, Ontario, Canada. Just outside of London.
[00:04:33] Speaker B: It's called Dorchester.
[00:04:34] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:04:34] Speaker F: No kidding. No kidding.
[00:04:36] Speaker B: No kidding. Because that's where you. That's where you live, Jack, isn't it?
[00:04:38] Speaker F: Yes, it is.
[00:04:39] Speaker B: He lives in Dorchester. We're just outside of Boston. Well, it's part of Boston.
[00:04:44] Speaker C: 10 minutes outside of London, Ontario.
[00:04:46] Speaker F: Well, you see, we actually pronounce a little bit differently. We call it Dorchester.
Crying out loud,
[00:04:54] Speaker B: but yeah, that's right, Dorchester. But it's all just such an awful nice community oh, yeah, yeah.
[00:05:00] Speaker C: It's a beautiful country.
[00:05:02] Speaker B: We have Sonia spelled with a J. I won't go through that like. You spelled it the same as my daughter. Because every time you call, I say that. But Sonia's in Pennsylvania.
[00:05:12] Speaker D: Yeah, Newcastle.
[00:05:13] Speaker B: Newcastle. And I have. My youngest daughter's in Newcastle, New Hampshire.
Isn't that wild? Is that not.
Yeah.
[00:05:21] Speaker D: We're quite a ways away, though, because I'm clear over the Alleghenies.
[00:05:24] Speaker C: By the way.
[00:05:25] Speaker D: I thought at first when you were saying what you were wearing there, I thought you said jock shorts, and I was wondering how that fit in with
[00:05:31] Speaker C: the rest of the costume.
[00:05:33] Speaker B: Did you say jock shorts?
You know, that's not a bad costume. I may wear that tomorrow.
[00:05:39] Speaker D: Well, I'm deciding whether I want to wear a sari or one of these Roman stolas, you know, the feminine of the to.
[00:05:47] Speaker E: How about a sarong?
[00:05:49] Speaker D: Oh, there you go. Tonight, I need a sarong, man.
[00:05:52] Speaker C: Roman candle.
[00:05:53] Speaker B: You need it. You need a sarong tonight.
[00:05:57] Speaker F: Song. See you soon.
[00:05:59] Speaker C: Now, why.
[00:06:00] Speaker B: Why would you. Why would you need a. Why would you need a saranga tonight, Sonia?
[00:06:05] Speaker D: It's hot down here.
[00:06:06] Speaker B: Is it? Is it really? No kidding.
[00:06:08] Speaker D: It's around 68, 70. And for me, I can't. You know.
[00:06:12] Speaker B: Yeah. Here it's just warm enough. So we're finally melting some of the winter snow.
Oh, yes.
[00:06:18] Speaker D: Up here we just play hockey. You know, it didn't go below 85 last weekend.
[00:06:23] Speaker B: Yeah. You're gonna. You're gonna spend the entire time fetching about how hot it is. Is that what we're in for?
[00:06:28] Speaker D: Why not?
[00:06:29] Speaker B: Yeah. Because we get. It gets hot here, too.
[00:06:31] Speaker C: It's that hot. Why isn't she naked with me?
There you go. Well, I'm almost.
[00:06:38] Speaker B: In fact, it's so hot in Pennsylvania. I understand.
Yeah, I understand that they saw.
They saw. Let's see, they saw a cat chasing a mouse, and they were both just kind of lolling along very slowly.
[00:06:53] Speaker D: That was my dog chasing the cat is what that was.
[00:06:57] Speaker B: Oh, you're going to try to top me on these things on top of everything else.
Okay. We have also Jim, who's a little closer by. He's in Lowell.
Hi. How you doing? Lowell. Jim. I'm sorry, Jim.
Lowell is more from Jim. Lowell. That's right, From Jamestown.
[00:07:18] Speaker C: You know, Sonia, I wonder if her favorite song is Que Sarong. Sarong.
[00:07:25] Speaker F: Sorry, that just didn't work.
[00:07:27] Speaker D: We're going to have a good time tonight.
[00:07:28] Speaker C: I think. You. What's wrong with that?
[00:07:30] Speaker D: By the way, Norm, your bills. Where is Brighton, Massachusetts, because that's where the bills come from.
[00:07:36] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:07:36] Speaker B: Oh, does it say Brighton?
[00:07:37] Speaker D: Yeah, it says Brighton on them.
[00:07:39] Speaker B: Oh, I thought we were in Austin, though. I thought we were in Austin because
[00:07:44] Speaker F: it's in the gateway to lovely downtown Allston.
[00:07:47] Speaker B: Yeah, right along the majestic Cachows river with its white beach sands.
[00:07:52] Speaker F: Yeah, it's.
[00:07:55] Speaker C: Wait a minute. Wait a minute, Norm. It's white beached sands. Yeah, white sands.
[00:07:59] Speaker B: White sands beach, I guess, is what I'm trying to say.
[00:08:02] Speaker C: Yes, well, the town line cuts right
[00:08:04] Speaker B: through the building, so I think so. Yeah, we're right on that line. But actually our zip code, 02134, is actually Alston rather than Brighton.
[00:08:13] Speaker C: Yeah, the phones are in Brighton. The mail.
[00:08:15] Speaker B: That's right.
[00:08:16] Speaker F: It's all part of Boston.
[00:08:17] Speaker B: Hold on a minute. I want to show you an experiment. If you don't see this, my right leg is now in Allston. Hold on a minute. My left leg is right.
My right leg is in Allston, and my left leg is in Brighton.
[00:08:31] Speaker C: And if you do the hokey pokey.
[00:08:33] Speaker F: Turn yourself about, then I fall dead in West Roxbury.
[00:08:37] Speaker B: Again, I fall dead in West Roxbury.
[00:08:40] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:08:42] Speaker C: You end up in water, Tom.
[00:08:43] Speaker B: No, these are all. These. Sonia. These are all parts of Boston. They're like.
It's all part of the city of Boston.
[00:08:50] Speaker C: Well, that's in Pittsburgh.
[00:08:51] Speaker D: Down here has a batch of these, too.
[00:08:53] Speaker B: What kind of names do you have in Pittsburgh for your suburbs? Well, I'm not suburbs, but sections of the. Of the city that are. That are part of it.
[00:09:02] Speaker D: My mind is totally wiped out. You can't.
[00:09:04] Speaker B: You can't think of section. You can't think of sections of. Of Pittsburgh.
[00:09:08] Speaker D: No, I'm not actually from Pittsburgh.
[00:09:10] Speaker B: Oh, I see.
[00:09:11] Speaker D: And I'm 50 miles north.
[00:09:14] Speaker E: There's.
[00:09:15] Speaker D: There.
[00:09:15] Speaker E: But that's a big suburb.
[00:09:20] Speaker D: It has quite a few little. Little. Little towns, like Lawrenceville was part of that.
[00:09:24] Speaker C: Dismiss her.
[00:09:25] Speaker B: Yeah, no, I happen to know parts of Pittsburgh very well. The sections of it. The equivalent in New York, they'd call them boroughs. They're all part of New York City in Pittsburgh. Yes, they call them boroughs in Pittsburgh. Yeah, I happen to know. I happen to have a list of them right here.
[00:09:41] Speaker C: Do you know up here in Canada at all?
[00:09:44] Speaker B: Yes, I know the. I know the areas you have up there, too, and I can tell you those if you would like to know. But in Pittsburgh, there's the area.
Well, I'm still working on Pittsburgh.
[00:09:55] Speaker C: Okay, Paul.
[00:09:55] Speaker B: See, I'm working on Pittsburgh. Yeah, no, Pittsburgh has five boroughs. One is called Meskowich, another one is Philomene and there are three others too, but those are the main ones in Canada. And you're in Dorchester, is that correct? Is that a separate town?
[00:10:17] Speaker C: Correct.
[00:10:18] Speaker B: Okay. Dorchester is divided into many sections also.
[00:10:21] Speaker C: That's true.
[00:10:22] Speaker B: One is called Pilchnerville.
[00:10:25] Speaker C: Actually, I'm in the suburb of that.
[00:10:27] Speaker B: No, no, Pilcherville is a part of. Is a part of Dorchester, Ontario, Canada.
[00:10:32] Speaker C: Yep.
[00:10:32] Speaker B: You obviously don't know your own home area.
[00:10:35] Speaker C: It's a suburb of that.
[00:10:36] Speaker F: Must take forever to address a letter.
[00:10:38] Speaker B: It really does.
[00:10:39] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:10:41] Speaker B: Okay, let's get on with the game. Everybody in favor of that?
[00:10:43] Speaker F: Yep.
[00:10:44] Speaker C: We were just having so much fun, Norm.
[00:10:45] Speaker B: I know. We could forget the game and just. Just talk silly.
[00:10:48] Speaker F: Let's play Guess the Zip co.
Yep,
[00:10:51] Speaker B: you could do that. Orson Bean, the actor and comedian was born on this day.
[00:10:55] Speaker D: Yeah. On Dr. Quinn. He plays.
[00:10:58] Speaker C: What's he playing? Dr. Quinn?
[00:11:00] Speaker D: Storekeeper Lauren.
[00:11:02] Speaker B: Lauren Bray. Yeah, that's correct on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. That's what that beautiful British actress.
Is she British?
[00:11:12] Speaker D: Not hardly, but she wants to go to England. She's going to only have one more year of her show.
[00:11:16] Speaker B: Now what is her name?
Jane Seymour. That's right. She's not. She's not English, is she?
[00:11:21] Speaker F: Isn't. She's got an accent.
[00:11:23] Speaker C: Yeah, she's from English.
[00:11:25] Speaker B: No, she is English. Yeah, she's a. She's a lovely looking man.
[00:11:28] Speaker D: English.
[00:11:29] Speaker B: Yes. Yes.
[00:11:31] Speaker D: Well, she's got a good American.
American.
[00:11:35] Speaker B: Well, she probably. She probably works on American.
[00:11:37] Speaker F: She just plays one on tv.
[00:11:40] Speaker B: Okay. Orson Bean was born Dallas F. Burrows in Burlington, Vermont. A very distinguished family up there.
Regular panelist on the old TV show To Tell the Truth, he was a guest on the Tonight Show.
[00:11:55] Speaker C: Orson Bean is a borrower of Dallas, isn't it?
[00:11:59] Speaker B: That is. That's right. Orson Beans was the fellow who was talking about his New England roots and said his, his great, great, great grandfather. Ezra Bean was a bartender at one of the. At the Tavern on Concord. And he was the one who poured the shot heard around the world.
That was. I stole that line from Orson Bean.
And he was a guest on The Tonight Show February 11, 1961. Jack Parr walked off the show in a dispute with NBC and left Hugh Downs to finish the program.
That's kind of a funny, kind of a distinguished, kind of a funny way to be identified. I instantly with the show when he walked off. He appears as the shopkeeper, said Lauren Bray on Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman. He's married to actress Ali Mills of the Wonder Years.
He wrote a book for cats, 25 Ways to Cook a Mouse.
[00:12:50] Speaker C: Oh, I have that.
[00:12:52] Speaker B: Have you?
[00:12:52] Speaker C: I have that book.
[00:12:54] Speaker B: How come we have never interviewed the. Him and the.
[00:12:56] Speaker C: Oh, he wasn't available to do interviews
[00:12:58] Speaker B: or something, because that sounds like our kind of interview.
[00:13:02] Speaker C: What are you gonna. You got a problem with what I book for your show? Well, find yourself another producer. I quit. Oh.
[00:13:07] Speaker B: Oh, well, find yourself another guy to book for. I quit, too. And let WBC find themselves another team, like, because we both quit.
You hear us, Peter? Casey, I hope you're not sleeping well.
[00:13:23] Speaker C: You realize when we show up on Monday, they'll say, what are you doing here? You quit?
[00:13:28] Speaker B: And we'll say, we were just fooling. And he'll say, were you? We've already replaced you.
We got two.
Yeah, we got two misfits who hated working for wrko. We've hired them over here anyway. Orson Bean. Let's start with you, Paul.
How old do you think Orson Bean is this very day?
[00:13:48] Speaker C: I'm guessing 66.
[00:13:54] Speaker B: 66, okay. And Sonia, what do you think?
[00:13:58] Speaker D: I don't know. I'm gonna hit it. 73 score and 10.
[00:14:02] Speaker B: 20, 40.
[00:14:04] Speaker D: That's right.
[00:14:05] Speaker B: That's right. You ought to get some credit just for figuring that part out.
[00:14:09] Speaker F: And how many stone does he weigh?
[00:14:14] Speaker B: Jim, what do you think? How old is Orson Bean?
[00:14:16] Speaker C: Well, I don't know about Orson. I know Ailey Mills is a kind of a young chick. You know, she's in her 40s.
[00:14:23] Speaker F: She was once.
[00:14:26] Speaker C: Austin's doing pretty well, but he'd be
[00:14:32] Speaker D: maybe 68.
[00:14:33] Speaker B: 68, okay.
[00:14:35] Speaker C: He sounded like a Muppet there for a second.
[00:14:38] Speaker B: Tony, what do you think?
[00:14:40] Speaker C: He's a gaseous 68. Yeah.
[00:14:46] Speaker F: How long have you been thinking of that?
[00:14:50] Speaker C: It's been so long.
[00:14:54] Speaker B: Jack, what do you think?
[00:14:55] Speaker C: I just don't mean to be stringing you along.
Try to appease us now, will you?
[00:15:06] Speaker B: And of course, his theme song is Nothing Could Be Finer than to Be in Carolima.
[00:15:14] Speaker E: That's half baked if ever.
[00:15:16] Speaker C: Give yourself five points for that one. Oh, that's chilly.
[00:15:20] Speaker B: Okay, Jack, what do you think? Orson Bean. How old is he?
[00:15:29] Speaker F: I've always thought of Orson Bean as sort of the Yankee Groucho Marx. He always kind of had that.
That kind of voice, you know, I woke up and found an elk in my pajamas. How he got there, I'll never know.
[00:15:41] Speaker B: Of course, he is a Knowing that.
From Burlington, Vermont, as we mentioned. Yeah,
[00:15:50] Speaker F: Let's see.
[00:15:51] Speaker B: I always get him mixed up with the guy who was Mr. Ed's.
The horse guy.
[00:15:59] Speaker C: Wilbur?
[00:16:00] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:16:01] Speaker B: Who's that?
[00:16:02] Speaker F: Wilbur or.
[00:16:04] Speaker B: No, no, the horse. No, not the horse. The guy. The guy who.
[00:16:09] Speaker F: The guy who played Wilbur.
[00:16:11] Speaker B: No. Yeah, yeah. Who was that?
[00:16:13] Speaker F: Alan Young.
[00:16:14] Speaker B: Alan Young. I always get Alan Young and Orson Bean mixed up.
[00:16:17] Speaker F: Is that right?
[00:16:18] Speaker B: Yeah, it's really terrible because I was introducing them at a party once and I forgot their names and I was introducing them to each other, too, which was really weird.
Yeah, no Orson.
[00:16:31] Speaker C: Anyway, the trouble is Mr. Ed can't tell them apart either.
[00:16:34] Speaker B: No, he can't.
[00:16:35] Speaker C: That's the shocking truth.
[00:16:36] Speaker F: And he's his little horsey.
[00:16:39] Speaker B: And the fact that anybody would have an office the same place where the horse was in the stable and I'd never seen him cleaning out that stable.
And you know what it's like to be in a place with a stable that's not been cleaned out forever?
[00:16:54] Speaker D: Even when it's cleaned, it still smells.
[00:16:56] Speaker B: It still smells. That's right, too. Yeah.
[00:16:58] Speaker F: Well, it's a good earthy smell.
[00:17:01] Speaker D: Yeah, it is.
[00:17:01] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:17:02] Speaker B: You obviously hate it.
[00:17:03] Speaker E: You've never mucked a stall.
[00:17:05] Speaker B: Jack, what do you think? How old is Orson Bean?
[00:17:07] Speaker F: How old is Orson Bean?
[00:17:09] Speaker B: Yeah, I know.
[00:17:11] Speaker C: Half baked. Answer check.
[00:17:13] Speaker D: We have Amish horses. Amish buggies around here. You don't have to wait, being a stable.
[00:17:19] Speaker E: No, they leave road apples.
[00:17:21] Speaker D: They do. Alley apples.
[00:17:23] Speaker C: Wow.
[00:17:30] Speaker F: I'll say he's 71.
[00:17:33] Speaker B: 71, okay. And Hope, what do you think?
[00:17:37] Speaker E: Well, Orson Bean has a really great bit that he says that he's gonna eat all things with preservatives in them because it's just gonna help him stay young. So I'm gonna say he's a preserved 68.
[00:17:51] Speaker B: That was a long answer, wasn't it?
[00:17:54] Speaker C: I love the private stories.
[00:17:56] Speaker B: Okay. Orson being actually 67. So a lot of you had a lot of winners here. Yeah. Including Paul, Jim, Tony and hope. All four said 68 because three said 68 and one said 66. So both were around that and the two others, you, Sonya, and you, Jack, you were very close.
[00:18:17] Speaker C: Also makes the rest of the game easy for me. I already got the one I want out of the way.
[00:18:21] Speaker B: That's right. Now you're already one up and all. So we have four in the first round. Alec Trebek was also born July 22nd.
Alex Rebeck reminds me very much of myself. He's very smooth, good looking, well dressed and very, very bright.
[00:18:37] Speaker C: Canadian, of course.
[00:18:39] Speaker B: Pardon me, please.
[00:18:40] Speaker D: Canadian, of course he is.
[00:18:42] Speaker B: That's right. He was born in Canada. Game show host, of course. Constant. He did concentration. Now he does Jeopardy. I think he does a great job on that.
He seems to be a very great bright guy. How. How old do you think he is? Hope?
[00:18:58] Speaker E: 54.
[00:19:00] Speaker B: Okay. And Jack, what do you think?
[00:19:02] Speaker F: Alex Trebek.
[00:19:03] Speaker B: Alex Trebek. Alex Trebek.
[00:19:05] Speaker F: Alex Trebek.
[00:19:06] Speaker B: Alex Trebek, Canada.
[00:19:08] Speaker C: Alex or Alex?
[00:19:09] Speaker B: Alex Trebek.
[00:19:11] Speaker F: Well, Alist Trebeka, apparently he was born
[00:19:14] Speaker B: in a part of Dorchester, Ontario, Canada, known as Filkin Comet, Hammond.
[00:19:20] Speaker C: How you know,
[00:19:26] Speaker F: And when the Vikings landed there.
[00:19:28] Speaker B: Ever seen the postal code zones for Canada?
[00:19:31] Speaker C: No.
[00:19:32] Speaker B: Yeah, it's like a 7, 7, zip, 4, 9, queen colored number. Red, 6, 3, 8.
[00:19:41] Speaker C: You have to get a tattoo.
[00:19:44] Speaker B: Try to remember what it is. Yeah, no, they're usually six digits.
[00:19:51] Speaker C: Three numbers.
[00:19:52] Speaker B: Yeah, that's like that.
[00:19:53] Speaker D: Three M7.
[00:19:54] Speaker B: Yeah. And if it's A. If it's A1, it looks like an L. Yeah.
And it's. It's really hard to figure out. I, I suspect that the mail never gets delivered in Canada.
[00:20:03] Speaker C: We actually.
[00:20:04] Speaker D: No.
[00:20:07] Speaker B: And the, the postage postal rates are much more expensive.
What does it cost you to send a letter to the United States?
Yeah, and I think we can still send to Canada for 32, can't we? For the. No, I think maybe.
Is it more than that?
[00:20:25] Speaker D: I can't remember what the current price is, but it is more than 32 cents.
[00:20:32] Speaker B: But, but the, the letters within Canada are more than 32 cents, aren't they?
[00:20:37] Speaker C: Yeah, they're about 46 cents.
[00:20:39] Speaker B: Okay, Jack, what do you. How old do you think Alex Trebek is?
[00:20:44] Speaker C: Alex Trebek.
[00:20:45] Speaker B: Alex trebek.
What is
[00:20:51] Speaker F: 52?
[00:20:53] Speaker B: 52.
Okay, I'll answer that question or ask it in the form of a question later on. But first, Tony, what do you think?
[00:21:03] Speaker C: Birthdays for a thousand, Norm.
[00:21:06] Speaker B: I beg your pardon?
[00:21:07] Speaker C: Birthdays for a thousand.
[00:21:09] Speaker B: Oh, okay. Birthdays for a thousand. Okay. And the, the answer is.
[00:21:14] Speaker C: Alex Trebek, what is 54?
[00:21:18] Speaker B: Beautiful. That's really nice.
[00:21:20] Speaker C: I can't get the answer.
[00:21:21] Speaker B: No, not just yet. No, because we have to ask Jim, how old do you think Alex Trebek is?
[00:21:28] Speaker C: Well, here we go. He mentioned that he had a child in his 50s.
[00:21:35] Speaker B: He had a child who was in his 50s, eh?
[00:21:37] Speaker C: Wow.
[00:21:40] Speaker B: He must be about 70 or 80 himself.
[00:21:42] Speaker C: No, he had passed 50 years old when he had his first child. That was a few years back.
[00:21:46] Speaker B: Yeah, so he said he was in his 50s.
[00:21:50] Speaker C: 54.
[00:21:51] Speaker B: 54. I see.
And how old would his child be?
[00:21:56] Speaker C: For extra points, Canadian postal codes for a thousand consideration.
[00:22:02] Speaker B: Okay, Sonia, what do you think? How Old is Alex Trebek.
[00:22:06] Speaker D: I guess I'll say about 60.
[00:22:10] Speaker B: Okay.
Okay. And Paul from Dorchester. The category is Wet prunes.
[00:22:22] Speaker C: Again. Damn.
Actually, I'll say 50. 56.
[00:22:28] Speaker B: 56. Okay, we're now about to find the answer or the question.
The question is who. Who is 55 years old?
Yeah, he's 50. He's 55.
So we have nobody who said 55. We had Paul who said 56, and we had Jim who said 54. We had. Tony said 54 and Hope said 54. So the second round was won by exactly the same people that won the first round.
[00:23:01] Speaker F: Wow.
[00:23:02] Speaker B: Isn't that interesting?
[00:23:04] Speaker D: No, Jack wasn't in the first round.
[00:23:07] Speaker B: Pardon me?
[00:23:08] Speaker D: I think Jack was in the first round.
[00:23:10] Speaker B: No, no, Jack hasn't won either round and neither you and. You and Jack are the outs. That is correct, yeah. Oh, it's pitiful.
[00:23:19] Speaker C: Six.
[00:23:20] Speaker D: Yes.
[00:23:20] Speaker C: And awful.
[00:23:21] Speaker D: We should get a prize for losing.
[00:23:27] Speaker B: What is that? Some kind of a brilliant thing you just made up and you're so proud of that.
[00:23:32] Speaker D: Are you responsible of anything?
[00:23:36] Speaker B: Okay, here's the next one. Danny Glover, the actor from San Francisco, California, in the films Color Purple, Angels in the Outfield, the Saint of Fort Washington, Lethal Weapons. Beaufa. Yeah, Lethal Weapons. He was one about three of those. Weren't there three Lethal Weapons places in the heart. He's also been in a few other movies. He's a fine actor. Simon something.
I can't remember the name of the movie he's been. Anyway, you know who he is. He's been in all of those things. And I'm going to ask you first, Jim, how old is Danny Glover?
[00:24:11] Speaker D: Danny Glover?
[00:24:13] Speaker C: Well, you know, he's fairly recent in the movies, maybe within the last 10 years. He's been around as an entertainer for many years, but I think first acclaimed, gained fame and the Lethal Weapons series. Are you all right?
[00:24:28] Speaker B: Yeah, I think he's going through psychotherapy.
[00:24:32] Speaker C: I'm just sitting in my black velvet leader hose.
[00:24:35] Speaker D: It.
[00:24:36] Speaker C: You know, it's getting very sticky.
I mean, I don't have any jawed purrs.
[00:24:47] Speaker B: No, I. I'm. I just took my knickers off and.
[00:24:51] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:24:52] Speaker B: And the guy that left this line right around the. Underneath my knee.
They feel so good to scratch it.
Oh, it really is. It really is itchy. Yeah, it really is itchy.
[00:25:05] Speaker C: April knows what I'm.
[00:25:07] Speaker B: Yeah, I'm slipping off my argyle socks and my sandal shoes.
[00:25:11] Speaker C: Norm Nathan from Middleton, Massachusetts, suffers from Goddard. Norm, what are you.
[00:25:17] Speaker B: Well, I. I used to drag it and.
But then I Find you're supposed to kind of spray it on yourself, so I. I do that now?
[00:25:28] Speaker D: No, you rub it on.
[00:25:29] Speaker C: Oh, you rub it on.
[00:25:30] Speaker B: You can rub it on you if you want to, but just don't start fooling around rubbing it on me.
[00:25:35] Speaker C: Fella,
[00:25:37] Speaker B: you get your hand close to me, man, I'll.
I'll kill you.
Okay.
[00:25:43] Speaker C: I never go anywhere without my gold bond powder.
See?
[00:25:48] Speaker F: Well, I guess you need it wearing those. Wearing those black silverhosen crouches. Oh, velvet lederhosen.
[00:25:54] Speaker B: Oh, got it. We developing a whole crew of comics here on this program.
Oh, velvet leda hosen. That's really great.
[00:26:03] Speaker F: Sounds like a Bobby Vinton song. She wore velvet lederhosen.
[00:26:09] Speaker C: Black velvet band.
[00:26:12] Speaker B: Okay, Jim, shut the hell up and just tell me how old you think Danny was.
[00:26:19] Speaker C: An old nightclub singer.
I won't say anymore. 50 years.
[00:26:26] Speaker B: Old school.
Okay, Tony, what do you think?
I don't care about whether you care what. What you think about Danny Glover. I just like know what you think about life in general. Where are we and what is it all about?
[00:26:43] Speaker C: My hopes, my dreams.
[00:26:45] Speaker B: Your hopes, your dreams, your future prospects.
[00:26:48] Speaker C: Anyway, I'd rather give you Denny Glover's birthday.
[00:26:51] Speaker B: I think that would be nice.
[00:26:53] Speaker C: Let's see.
[00:26:55] Speaker D: He's
[00:27:00] Speaker C: a lethal.
Dude.
[00:27:09] Speaker B: I wonder if you could put these words a little closer together.
[00:27:16] Speaker E: He's listening to the sign language.
[00:27:19] Speaker C: He's a lethal.52.
[00:27:20] Speaker B: 52. Okay.
And hope, what do you think?
[00:27:25] Speaker E: I'm still back on the velvet leader hose and I think I'm developing a fetish.
[00:27:30] Speaker F: You know what she's going to show up to work in next week? Pair of Velvet Leto's.
[00:27:34] Speaker B: That'll be really nice.
[00:27:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:27:37] Speaker B: So as soon as she starts looking erratic like that, they'll probably. Probably, probably put her on the Bob Raleigh show or something like that. And I'll lose her
[00:27:46] Speaker C: and she'll never be heard from again.
[00:27:49] Speaker E: 56.
[00:27:51] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:27:52] Speaker E: I think whoever the heck we're talking about.
[00:27:55] Speaker B: Paul, what do you think, Paul?
[00:27:57] Speaker F: Danny Glover.
[00:27:57] Speaker B: Danny glover, that's correct.
56.
Okay. And the Sonja.
[00:28:03] Speaker D: Oh, I'll say 50.
[00:28:05] Speaker B: Sonny will say 50. And what will the very lovely Jack Hart say?
[00:28:15] Speaker F: Hey, and this is second hand information.
[00:28:26] Speaker E: You're mitten with him. You're mitten with him. You know you are
[00:28:32] Speaker F: thumbs up on that one
[00:28:36] Speaker B: if you have a chance. Perhaps you might even have find it within your soul to guess his age. Oh, I appreciate the wild.
[00:28:43] Speaker C: Don't scoff at it. No,
[00:28:46] Speaker B: I appreciate the wild ribbled humor. But if we could just get his Age down and get this thing done.
[00:28:53] Speaker C: Are we done yet?
[00:28:54] Speaker F: Before you give me a sock.
[00:28:58] Speaker B: Oh, Glover, the sock. We're really reaching, huh?
[00:29:03] Speaker F: Really reaching.
[00:29:06] Speaker B: I'll say.
[00:29:07] Speaker F: You know, 59.
[00:29:10] Speaker B: 59. Okay. We're about to find out his actual age. You all guessed above his age, but two of you guessed the closest. He's actually 48.
So Sonia, who now hits the scoreboard, said 50, and Jim said 50.
So those are the two winners this time.
Yeah. That means that Jim now leads. He's got three.
And Paul, Tony and Hope have two apiece, and Sonya now has one. And Jack Hart is ready to move into action,
[00:29:52] Speaker E: But he needs his velvet lederhosen to inspire him.
[00:29:58] Speaker B: Okay. Oh, will you stop? All of you be quiet. Albert Brooks, one of my favorite actors.
Yeah, Albert Brooks. He was born. You know his real name?
[00:30:09] Speaker C: I know his name. Joe Rivers.
What?
[00:30:12] Speaker B: What is his name?
[00:30:13] Speaker C: Do you know his father?
No. You know who his father was?
[00:30:17] Speaker B: No. What is.
[00:30:17] Speaker C: His father was a very famous person from the band era of the 1940s.
[00:30:23] Speaker B: No, I didn't know that. Who was that?
[00:30:24] Speaker F: Benny Goodman?
[00:30:25] Speaker C: Well, actually, it was a person who was with Kay Kaiser's band.
[00:30:29] Speaker B: Who was that?
[00:30:30] Speaker C: His father was Ishka Bibble.
[00:30:32] Speaker B: Oh, that's. That's Albert Brooks father was Ishka Bibble.
[00:30:35] Speaker C: Ishka Bibble's real name was Albert Einstein.
[00:30:39] Speaker B: Well, that. That. That's what Albert. Albert Brooks's real name was. He was born Albert Einstein.
[00:30:44] Speaker D: Wow.
[00:30:45] Speaker B: So you sure his father was also Albert Einstein?
No, let me. I'm going to look up Ish Kabib. Well, hold on a minute. See if I get that Ish Kabibble and Kaiser. Ish Kabibel.
[00:30:58] Speaker F: Well, would you.
[00:30:58] Speaker B: Would you believe I don't have a listing on Ishka Bibble?
[00:31:02] Speaker F: We'll look up the biblical.
[00:31:04] Speaker B: Maybe I'll look up. That's right. Bibble. Ishka. Bibble Dictionary Here.
[00:31:09] Speaker C: Bibble.
[00:31:09] Speaker B: I don't know Bibble. Hold on a minute. Let's see. Bibble, it says Bibble, comma, Ishka
[00:31:19] Speaker C: C. Einstein.
Bibble Einstein.
[00:31:28] Speaker B: No, I'm afraid I have.
[00:31:30] Speaker C: No, no, that was his father.
[00:31:31] Speaker B: I'm terribly sorry. I sound like a telephone operator. I have no listing on that, sir. It must be an unpublished number anyway.
[00:31:38] Speaker D: Albert Brooks, you have reached the wrong number.
[00:31:41] Speaker B: Oh, that was wonderful.
[00:31:42] Speaker C: That was good.
[00:31:43] Speaker D: I used to be one of those.
[00:31:45] Speaker C: Really?
[00:31:46] Speaker F: And did you have to have that voice?
[00:31:49] Speaker D: Well, not really. I was running a pbx. But I used to do it anyway once in a while.
[00:31:53] Speaker C: Oh, sure.
[00:31:54] Speaker B: Just Watching Police.
Okay.
[00:31:58] Speaker F: Anyway, everyone has issued a clothespin.
[00:32:02] Speaker B: He made a couple of comedy albums and was on the Gold Diggers show, the summer replacement for Dean Martin. And in movies, he made movies called the Scout, I'll Do Anything Defending youg Life and Broadcast News when I know he made other movies besides that. He did that one. Didn't he do one with Meryl Streep where they both died and he was up in heaven? What was that called?
[00:32:26] Speaker F: Maybe that was Defending youg Life.
[00:32:28] Speaker B: Oh, that might be that.
[00:32:29] Speaker C: No, no, it was one of them you mentioned. I thought he was in Taxi Driver.
Robert De Niro.
[00:32:36] Speaker B: No, he was in that. No, I don't.
[00:32:39] Speaker F: I don't remember. Something he did a funny movie with where he. He went to a family and he was going to document their life for a year.
[00:32:47] Speaker B: That's right.
[00:32:47] Speaker F: And the family completely went to pieces and such.
[00:32:52] Speaker B: And there was another one too, where he was. They. He was retiring. He bought a big mobile home and they were traveling along the cross country across country with. I forget who the actress was in that.
[00:33:03] Speaker F: And at one.
[00:33:05] Speaker B: Oh, it's the woman who was an airplane. Yeah, yeah, she was an airplane. And she bet all the money at some.
When they were in Las Vegas or some gambling place. And they're back in the trailer traveling along and she tells them they don't have any money left anyway.
But that's. I guess we know who Albert Brooks is. He's done a lot of. He's fantastic in broadcast news. I thought he was really something.
[00:33:37] Speaker D: Commercials for this.
This impotence commercial.
[00:33:41] Speaker F: No, that's Lionel Wagoner.
[00:33:43] Speaker B: No, that doesn't sound like it, but
[00:33:45] Speaker D: I can't think if that's the one.
[00:33:47] Speaker F: Yeah, I don't think he.
[00:33:48] Speaker D: Last name is Brooks. He does the foster.
[00:33:53] Speaker F: No.
[00:33:54] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:33:54] Speaker B: With all that booze he'd been drinking through the years, he could very well be it.
[00:33:57] Speaker D: But it's his voice, though. Sounds very old and I.
[00:34:01] Speaker B: No, Albert, no, I don't believe that. That doesn't sound like anything. My hero, Albert Brooks, would do a commercial on impotence.
[00:34:08] Speaker F: Didn't he do some stuff for the early Saturday Night Live days? Didn't he do some short little bits through the shorts?
[00:34:15] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:34:16] Speaker F: An Albert Brooks film. Like little funny little things.
[00:34:19] Speaker B: We'll start with you, Jack, and see if you can kind of wend your way into the scoring column.
[00:34:25] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:34:26] Speaker F: Huh?
[00:34:26] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:34:28] Speaker C: Typewriter.
[00:34:29] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:34:29] Speaker B: Also born July 22nd.
[00:34:34] Speaker E: What is that?
[00:34:35] Speaker F: I was chewing my nails.
He's got a B.
If he's a day
[00:34:44] Speaker B: 48. 48.
Okay. And Jim, what do you think?
[00:34:52] Speaker C: Well, he was on Saturday Night Live.
Gotta be over 40, maybe 44.
[00:35:01] Speaker B: Okay. And Hope, what do you think?
[00:35:04] Speaker E: 62.
[00:35:06] Speaker C: I'm sorry?
[00:35:07] Speaker E: 62.
[00:35:09] Speaker B: She said 62. 62.
Okay. Paul, what do you think?
[00:35:16] Speaker C: I'm thinking about.
[00:35:19] Speaker F: Tell a bit later.
[00:35:20] Speaker D: 45.
[00:35:21] Speaker B: 45.
Okay. And that's very nice, incidentally, to translate all your guesses into.
Into Fahrenheit from Celsius. We really appreciate that. And because I know normally you give his birthday in kilometers.
[00:35:36] Speaker D: Yeah.
Venus is Canadian.
[00:35:39] Speaker C: The next one will be in liters.
[00:35:44] Speaker B: I know. We come back to that.
Tony, what do you say?
[00:35:51] Speaker C: He's a babbling 46.
[00:35:53] Speaker B: Babbling 46.
[00:35:56] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:35:58] Speaker B: If he married Joan Rivers, I suppose you could say she'd be Joan Rivers. Brooks
[00:36:04] Speaker C: Babylon book. Yeah.
[00:36:06] Speaker E: If he married Brook Shields, she would be Brooks Brooks.
[00:36:09] Speaker D: Right.
[00:36:10] Speaker C: The books.
[00:36:11] Speaker D: Brook Shields.
[00:36:12] Speaker C: Brooks.
[00:36:13] Speaker B: Brook Shields Brooks. Yes, that's right. Yes.
Sonia, what do you. What do you say.
[00:36:19] Speaker D: Was Ishtar Bibble married when he was with Kay Kaiser?
[00:36:26] Speaker B: Could you please explain to us what. Yeah, what. What. What does that pertain to anything?
[00:36:32] Speaker D: Because Kay Kaiser kind of broke up that band in the late forties.
[00:36:36] Speaker B: Oh, I see. You're trying to figure the age.
[00:36:38] Speaker D: And if. What I. Why I said that Mishka Bibba was
[00:36:41] Speaker C: married to Vera Vague
[00:36:44] Speaker D: at the time.
[00:36:46] Speaker C: That's not too big.
[00:36:47] Speaker B: Was he married to Vera Vague? Was he really?
[00:36:50] Speaker D: Oh, when. When he was working with Kay Kaiser.
[00:36:54] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:36:54] Speaker D: Okay, I'm gonna go.
[00:36:56] Speaker C: Sounds like one of those old radio soap operas.
[00:36:58] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:37:01] Speaker C: Mel Brooks on. And Liz came in the door. And Liza and Lisa.
[00:37:08] Speaker D: No, Lisa's on television.
[00:37:11] Speaker C: Exactly.
[00:37:13] Speaker D: Anyway, I'm gonna. I. I did pretty well with it last time. I'll go with 50.
[00:37:17] Speaker B: 50.
Okay. The Albert Brooks this very day is 48.
And guess who said 48. And we hit it right on the button.
[00:37:28] Speaker D: Jack.
[00:37:29] Speaker B: Jack did. Exactly. So Jack is.
Jack is now on the board. This is really tight.
[00:37:37] Speaker C: Everyone's a winner.
[00:37:40] Speaker B: That's right. Nobody goes home without a prize.
[00:37:45] Speaker C: What do you think? At the Topsfield Fair, Norm, wanna open up a booth?
[00:37:48] Speaker B: I like the game. We could get. I think so. Guess people's ages and stuff.
[00:37:51] Speaker C: Get one of those Susquehanna hats or whatever they have and then put it on. You get a pointer there and. Hey, Stephen.
[00:37:58] Speaker D: Right up.
[00:37:59] Speaker C: The birthday game. Everyone's a winner and.
[00:38:01] Speaker B: That's right. Little stuffed things we give away. Little stuffed things.
[00:38:04] Speaker C: Oh, no. The same tacky gifts you give away in the game, is it?
[00:38:07] Speaker B: I suppose that'd be true.
[00:38:08] Speaker D: Who else was with Kay Kaiser's band. Mike Douglas.
[00:38:12] Speaker E: Really?
[00:38:13] Speaker C: Mike Douglas?
[00:38:14] Speaker B: That's right, Mike Douglas.
[00:38:16] Speaker C: I thought Jimmy Simmons was. Wasn't she?
[00:38:18] Speaker B: Yes.
Also a guy named Harry Babbitt and a whole bunch of people.
Jenny Sims was.
No, he didn't marry Jenny Sims. There's another woman that was with the band.
[00:38:30] Speaker D: He married, but they always thought Jenny Sims was. Was this girl, this. Kay Kaiser's daughter. Mentioned it to Don Kennedy. She. Oh, they always thought Jenny Sims was her mother.
[00:38:39] Speaker B: No, it was the other woman. Her name was Vera Vague. Yes, that's right. Vera Vague.
[00:38:46] Speaker F: Vera Vague. The woman who invented the phrase.
[00:38:48] Speaker B: Would you get that thing for me? It's over there.
[00:38:50] Speaker D: Kenny Smith was his mistress, though.
[00:38:53] Speaker B: Vera Vegas, she was a character. She played character parts on the old Bob Hope radio show. She goes back about a thousand years.
[00:39:01] Speaker C: I don't think April knows what we're talking about.
[00:39:03] Speaker B: Then again, Ishka Bimble does, too.
Okay, okay. Hold on. See, we're getting really late. We finally moved along on this thing. So let's do Robert J. Dole, Senator Dole. Born. Born in Kansas. Russell, Kansas. Senate minority leader when this book came out. He's now Senate majority leader, husband of Elizabeth Dole, former Secretary of Transportation and now head of the American Red Cross. That is Elizabeth Dole is.
[00:39:31] Speaker D: She's not now, is she?
[00:39:32] Speaker B: She was former secretary of trans. Yes, she's now. She's still head of the American Red Cross. I think today. I believe she is.
Anyway, he's the senator and the big deal and running for president and all that kind of stuff.
And Robert J. Dole.
How old would he be on this very day?
Tony, we'll start with you. What do you think?
[00:39:55] Speaker C: He's old.
[00:39:59] Speaker B: He would be. He would be one of the older. Outside of.
Outside of.
[00:40:06] Speaker C: Oh, yeah, because that. That was one of the issues. You know, he'll, you know, 98 if. If he's elected. He'll be 98 when he's done with the term.
[00:40:13] Speaker B: Well, I don't know about that. I wouldn't go that far. But he'd be the oldest candidate since Ronald Reagan, and not necessarily the same age. I think Ronald Reagan still, if I can clue you in a little bit more, was older, I believe so. What do you think, Tony? How old is Robert J. Dole?
Thank you.
I'm sure you're gonna work in a pineapple joke on this one. I just have that feeling while I was.
[00:40:42] Speaker F: He runs rings around us with that.
[00:40:46] Speaker B: I don't even get that one.
[00:40:47] Speaker F: Pineapple rings.
[00:40:49] Speaker E: I don't think you can do anything with chunks. Oh, crushed.
[00:40:52] Speaker C: Yeah. Chunks. That was. I was gonna say you're crushed. Did someone say that's awesome?
[00:41:00] Speaker B: Wow.
There's a seven day limit to the amount of time you can take to answer the question.
[00:41:07] Speaker C: Hang on. I'm just trying to figure this out. Please, please, I need. I need absolute quiet.
No pressure, man, no pressure.
74.
[00:41:19] Speaker B: 74.
Okay.
Sonia, what do you think?
[00:41:25] Speaker D: 64.
[00:41:26] Speaker B: 64. Do you hear much of Senator Dole up there in Canada, Paul?
[00:41:30] Speaker C: A little bit.
[00:41:31] Speaker B: Okay. How old do you think he is?
[00:41:33] Speaker C: I think he's too old.
[00:41:37] Speaker B: Isn't everybody when you're just a young punk kid?
[00:41:39] Speaker C: Well, yeah, I'm only 31.
[00:41:41] Speaker B: Are you 31?
[00:41:42] Speaker C: Yes, sir. Wow, really? Because your voice sounds like it's about 85.
[00:41:45] Speaker B: Yeah, it really is.
It's a very old, sick kind of voice.
[00:41:52] Speaker C: It's all worn out for pronouncing all those suburbs up there.
[00:41:55] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:41:56] Speaker B: So we're licking those stamps there. About 90 cents apiece, maybe.
[00:41:59] Speaker C: It's a velvet leader hose in a 2 tank. Yeah. So as a postal worker, I just love it.
[00:42:05] Speaker B: How old do you think Robert Dole is, if I may intrude on this? Robert J. Dole. Senator Dole.
[00:42:11] Speaker C: What's the J stand for?
[00:42:12] Speaker B: The J stands for Jewish.
He never lets that known publicly, though.
[00:42:19] Speaker C: Yeah,
[00:42:24] Speaker D: My son, the senator.
[00:42:26] Speaker B: Yeah, that's right. My son, the senator.
God bless him. My son, the senator. If anybody looked less Jewish than Robert Dole, I've yet to meet him. Okay. Anyway, what do you say, Paul? How old is Robert J. Dole? I mean, that is a goy from the first word.
[00:42:43] Speaker C: Go.
[00:42:44] Speaker B: I tell you, I gotta be. I gotta. I gotta be offending everybody in the world with a few.
[00:42:52] Speaker C: Well, you might as well be an equal opportunity offender. I mean.
[00:42:56] Speaker B: That's right.
[00:43:00] Speaker C: Why single one out? Norm's pretty fair. He offends everyone.
[00:43:03] Speaker B: What about this?
What about this woman's organization?
Senator Dole, you mean.
[00:43:10] Speaker F: You mean.
[00:43:10] Speaker B: Hold on, I'm doing. Oh, will you hold on? I'm doing shtick. I'm doing shtick. For God.
[00:43:14] Speaker C: I would say he's 60 years old.
[00:43:16] Speaker B: You're not gonna stop, are you? No matter what. Okay, you're gonna say 60.
[00:43:20] Speaker C: 60.
[00:43:21] Speaker D: Okay.
[00:43:22] Speaker B: Yeah, I was gonna say Senator Dole, this women's organization you're gonna speak to tonight.
You're not gonna shut up for a second, are you?
[00:43:32] Speaker C: How.
[00:43:32] Speaker B: The hell with it? Let's go out. Jim, what do you think? No, I'll tell you later. Call me, call me, call me on the off the air later on.
Jim. Yeah.
[00:43:41] Speaker A: Hold it.
[00:43:41] Speaker B: Hold it out. Who's talking all this? Is this Paul or Jim?
Paul. Was it Paul talking all that time?
[00:43:48] Speaker C: No, that was him.
[00:43:49] Speaker B: Jim, what do you think? How old is Senator Doe?
No, just. Just tell me his age. Come on, we gotta get moving because we're running late.
Hey, Jim. Jim, how old is he? Is Dole71. Okay. Geez,
[00:44:07] Speaker C: and he could be president of a banana republic.
Wow.
[00:44:16] Speaker D: Okay, Jack.
[00:44:16] Speaker C: Probably guarantee the Hawaiian vote.
[00:44:19] Speaker B: Jack, what do you think?
[00:44:22] Speaker F: I think that'd have some appeal.
Let's see.
Well, I'll say 74.
[00:44:37] Speaker C: Oh, so you're gonna go with me?
[00:44:39] Speaker F: Yeah, I figured I'd stick with a bunch.
[00:44:41] Speaker C: Thank you, Jack. I was hoping you'd walk right into that one.
[00:44:44] Speaker B: Okay. Hope, what do you think?
[00:44:46] Speaker E: 64.
[00:44:49] Speaker B: Okay. Actually, he's 72, so I think Jim, unfortunately came the closest.
Yeah, Jim said 71.
Okay. Yeah, 71. He's seven. No, he's 72 years old today.
Okay, we'll do. I think. I guess we get time for one more. And this is Sparky Lyle.
The pitcher.
Baseball. Relief pitcher. A Yankee pitcher. Winner of the Cy Young Award as best pitcher in the American League in 1977, if that'll give you a clue.
1970s. Did he pitch for the Red Sox at all? Anytime?
[00:45:27] Speaker F: Did he.
[00:45:28] Speaker C: Yeah, he was traded to the Yankees for.
I can't remember.
[00:45:33] Speaker B: Okay, but he did pitch. He. I do remember him pitching for the Red Sox.
[00:45:37] Speaker C: Traded him to the Yankees.
[00:45:38] Speaker B: Okay.
And. Okay, so how old would he be today?
We'll start with you, Jim.
[00:45:47] Speaker C: Well, he hasn't pitched for about 15 years and.
40. 50.
[00:45:53] Speaker B: And he won the award, the Cy Young Award, in 77. So that's a clue.
[00:45:59] Speaker C: 53.
[00:46:01] Speaker B: 53.
Okay.
And hope.
[00:46:07] Speaker E: A luscious 52.
[00:46:09] Speaker B: A luscious 52, huh? Is there a reason for you saying a luscious 52? Is that.
[00:46:15] Speaker E: Yes, definitely.
[00:46:17] Speaker B: Did you like Sparky Lyle? You think he's sexy or something like that?
[00:46:20] Speaker E: I have a thing for the name Sparky.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: She has a thing for the name Sparky. When you're trying to talk sexy, do you. You start lisping like that? Is that part of it? Listen. Does that drive guys crazy? Listen, I really like your lisp.
Driving.
[00:46:37] Speaker E: Hello.
[00:46:37] Speaker D: I'm driving.
[00:46:39] Speaker F: Names.
[00:46:40] Speaker C: Marky,
[00:46:42] Speaker B: I'm really getting turned on just so much from the way you talk. It's really nice.
Tony Nesbit, how old do you think Sparky Lyle is?
[00:46:55] Speaker D: You sound like you're turning gay.
[00:46:59] Speaker B: Well, why not? I've tried everything Else, nothing has ever worked.
But don't feel sorry for me. Just clear out of my way.
Okay. Tony, how old do you think Sparky Lyle is?
[00:47:11] Speaker C: Okay, let me see. What was that? 18 years ago?
[00:47:14] Speaker B: Was 77, I would say that sounds like a.
[00:47:19] Speaker C: So he was probably this.
[00:47:28] Speaker B: Wow.
[00:47:29] Speaker C: Could he be that guy?
He's a.
[00:47:36] Speaker F: Didn't he do ads for cheap suits? Somewhere along the line.
Sparky LA collection at Kennedy.
[00:47:45] Speaker C: 50. Cute suit with wide. With lapels.
50. 55.
[00:47:51] Speaker B: 55.
[00:47:52] Speaker C: 55.
[00:47:53] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:47:54] Speaker C: And Jack joke, but I forgot it, so.
[00:47:56] Speaker B: Good, because we're really. We're running very late. Jack, what do you. What do you think?
[00:48:01] Speaker F: Sparky Lyle.
[00:48:02] Speaker B: Sparky Lyle.
[00:48:03] Speaker C: Is that his real name too?
[00:48:04] Speaker E: Don't list.
[00:48:05] Speaker C: Whatever.
[00:48:06] Speaker B: Let's see. It didn't say Sparky Line. Yeah, that's the only name it's got here.
It may not be his.
Sparky may not be his name.
[00:48:15] Speaker F: Let's call him. Let's call him Sparky.
[00:48:20] Speaker B: His real name is Howard.
[00:48:21] Speaker C: Yeah,
[00:48:25] Speaker F: his.
[00:48:26] Speaker B: That's like the Howard. The grasshopper that hopped up on the bar. Remember that?
[00:48:32] Speaker C: I wish you'd tell that joke again.
[00:48:35] Speaker B: I told. It was so successful last time. Bartender says, do you know that. Do you know that they've named a drink after you? And he says they got a drink called Howard?
[00:48:54] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:48:55] Speaker B: So what do you think about Sparky Lyle there? Jack Hart.
[00:48:58] Speaker F: Oh, let's see.
[00:49:00] Speaker E: Lisp. Lisp.
[00:49:02] Speaker F: No.
[00:49:03] Speaker B: No. What? What?
[00:49:04] Speaker C: No.
[00:49:05] Speaker B: Somebody molesting you up where you are? What is it?
[00:49:08] Speaker C: No.
[00:49:09] Speaker F: I said no, thank you.
[00:49:11] Speaker C: Why?
[00:49:11] Speaker B: It's Sparky Lyle.
[00:49:16] Speaker C: He
[00:49:19] Speaker B: is
[00:49:21] Speaker F: 2 plus 18.
He is 57.
[00:49:28] Speaker B: 57.
[00:49:29] Speaker E: That must be new math.
[00:49:32] Speaker F: Is that 18 to anything?
[00:49:33] Speaker B: Go get it. Sonia, what do you think?
[00:49:36] Speaker D: Oh, 54, 54.
[00:49:39] Speaker B: And Paul?
[00:49:41] Speaker C: The same. 54.
[00:49:43] Speaker B: 54. Also actually he's 51 and Hope said 52.
[00:49:49] Speaker E: The list works.
[00:49:50] Speaker F: Yeah.
[00:49:52] Speaker B: So. So what we have here. Let's see.
Let's see here. Jim has three and Hope has three.
[00:50:02] Speaker C: And Hope's employee. We eliminate him.
[00:50:05] Speaker E: Time to get this.
[00:50:05] Speaker C: Yeah.
[00:50:06] Speaker B: Actually, no, because Paul had two correct answers and Sonya had one.
Jim had the three, Tony had two, Jack has one and Hope has three. Yes, it'll be a tie between Hope and whoever else I said there up Jim. So actually Jim is the winner.
[00:50:26] Speaker D: Yeah.
[00:50:27] Speaker B: Jim, congratulations. That's wonderful. You get a whole lot of nothing stuff coming your way.
[00:50:33] Speaker C: Thank all my compatriots for being so gracious and their defeat.
Who the hell's being gracious?
[00:50:44] Speaker B: They've already found out where you live. They'll be up in your house. By 10 o' clock this morning, you won't have a nose anymore. You kidding? Gracious.
[00:50:53] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:50:54] Speaker B: Anyway, thank you very much, so many of you for playing this swell game. Jim, next time, shut up. Wait a minute. You got three correct answers. No, no, Jim is the winner. That's right.
[00:51:04] Speaker C: Hold on.
[00:51:05] Speaker B: Yeah, that's right. No, we already announced that Jim is the. Jim is the winner.
[00:51:08] Speaker C: Do I get a peeper?
[00:51:10] Speaker B: Yes, you will. You'll get a peeper ring. Everybody who wins the dumb birthday game gets a bunch of junk. But a peepering. I always suggest you can return. Please not return any of the stuff to us because we don't really want it either.
Except. Except the paper key ring.
The paper key ring we could use if you want to send that back, because a lot of people ask for them. Yes, you will get one of those.
[00:51:30] Speaker C: Satisfaction not guaranteed.
[00:51:32] Speaker B: Oh, absolutely not.
[00:51:33] Speaker D: You can't charge you for transcribing my junk into braille that I won.
[00:51:39] Speaker B: You want to translate the peeper key ring into braille? Is that what you're saying?
[00:51:43] Speaker C: Okay.
[00:51:43] Speaker D: Hey, Sonia, we're going to try transcribe it.
[00:51:46] Speaker C: Give it to me.
[00:51:48] Speaker B: Listen, I gotta go. Hold on, hold on, Jim. And as a matter of fact, Jim held on long enough for I hope to get.
[00:51:55] Speaker C: Get.
[00:51:55] Speaker B: Get to your phone. And he'll take his name and address. Sonia, nice to talk with you. And nice to talk with you, Paul.
[00:52:01] Speaker C: Yep, Yep.
[00:52:04] Speaker B: Okay.
[00:52:04] Speaker C: Hey, Norm.
[00:52:05] Speaker F: Yeah?
[00:52:06] Speaker C: We got some of those books, those Christmas books, and we can have a little Christmas in July giveaway.
[00:52:11] Speaker B: We could do that too.
[00:52:12] Speaker C: I'll show you where they are, so.
[00:52:14] Speaker B: No, I think I know where they are. We got the Make a Wish books and all that.
[00:52:17] Speaker C: Yeah, lots of.
[00:52:18] Speaker B: Oh, lots of. Lots of wondrous stuff.
[00:52:20] Speaker C: We're gonna ruin the image, though.
[00:52:22] Speaker B: I know they won't. They'll. I'll.
I don't know, I'll paint them and do something bad to them so they'll come looking bad.
Anyway, Tony and Jack, thanks a lot.
[00:52:31] Speaker C: Take care, Norm. Good night.
[00:52:32] Speaker B: Okay, good night, both of you guys. Thanks for playing the game. And we're coming up the news time, because it is time for the. We'll be here another hour and I'd like to talk to you. We'll just talk in general about things in general.
I guess that'd be good. Okay.
[00:52:48] Speaker F: While you're driving your car, we're driving 50,000 watts of power. News all day, every day. News Radio 1030, WBC Boston.
[00:53:02] Speaker A: Occasionally I get asked, will you ever stop at the corny jokes and I reply, what are you gonna do? Call the crops?
